What’s the Big Deal? by Jeff Tritel

Two weeks ago it was a naked female snow sculpture making the neighbors cringe in New Jersey and this week an eight foot snow penis has mortified the city fathers of Truckee, California.  Being a man I’m in the male 50% of all mammals on planet earth that have a penis.  And no, I don’t run shrieking in horror when I see myself naked in the mirror.  In fact, I like the way I look.

I remember the man in Bakersfield, California who, observing one of my male nudes, asked, “Why don’t you at least put a loin cloth on him?”  “Loin cloth?!?!  Well, I would if I was sculpting Tarzan of the Apes.

In truth, penises were not my idea.  I do think that they were a good idea but I didn’t think of them.  I am simply affirming that this is what people look like.  We’re beautiful.  And we are what we are.  I remember the old Wendy’s commercial; “Parts is parts!”

  1. One of our clients left this comment. We want to be fair and show what everyone is thinking.

Not helpful to your career from my perspective. Having purchased some of your very first pieces, I imbued you with the qualities of great sensitivity and an inclusive humanity — “Let us go then you and I to where the evening meets the sky, etc.” I’m disappointed that you would waste even a moment of your life on trying to dignify the only element of Man that has continually be used to keep women down, and continues to do so. There is no other reason that men should be put on pedestals over women except that they still control patriarchal society, Congress, Senate, Entertainment Industry, Publishing, Big Business, etc. Rather like glorifying who’s got the biggest AK47 in the room. What a waste.

  2. Thanks for your comment. Jeff’s intention is always to celebrate everyone, male, female, child, senior. Never glorifying one over the other. Jeff appreciates everyone and he always approaches every subject with a bit of humor.
